About
It can be easy to forget that humans are a part of nature, not a separate superior being. A creature as gentle and seemingly minuscule as a butterfly is equal to a human being by virtue that both are delicate and dependent upon the Earth. Although animals seem to be so different from us, this distinction is not always evident.
When we are mindful of familiar realities, such as the fact that elephants mourn their dead, our connection with nature becomes clear. The skeleton is another haunting symbol of our connection with nature. This simple foundation is shared by nearly all animals. From the beginning of life, the skeleton was present; in the end, it is all that remains. These ideas often present themselves in my work.
Realizing these important similarities, we understand that to abuse the Earth or animals is ultimately self-destructive to humanity. Rather than discussing at length the need to respect the vast world of plants and animals, I believe it is more compelling to express these concepts visually.
My work can currently be found locally at Black Sheep Market in Tonawanda at 71 Main St, Tonawanda, NY, 14120.
